Biden motorcade hit by driver near Delaware campaign offices

President Biden was interrupted Sunday while speaking to reporters in downtown Wilmington, Del., when a sedan crashed into a parked vehicle at the president’s motorcade as he was leaving his reelection campaign offices.

Mr. Biden and Jill Biden, the first lady, were not injured, according to the White House. They had attended an event at campaign headquarters and had dinner with campaign staff members.

Mr. Biden was discussing his polling numbers when a silver vehicle with Delaware license plates collided with an SUV associated with the White House and which was blocking an intersection with access to the road Mr. Biden was visiting.

According to reporters in the White House press room, authorities outside responded to the collision, surrounding the car and pointing weapons at the driver before he surrendered.

The officers could be heard asking the driver to open the door, according to the videos published online. Photographers at the scene captured Mr Biden, startled, as he turned to watch the crash and before officers ushered him into his vehicle.

It was not immediately clear whether the crash was accidental or intentional. The White House referred questions about the cause of the crash to the Secret Service, which did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
